■ Bench Notes

Write the CYTO 2027 abstract reviewers can score

The CYTO 2027 site opens Oct 19 and closes Dec 6. Abstracts from cores and clinical labs are often method stories, and they lose points for missing the details a reviewer needs to judge them. Before you submit:

  1. Lead with the number. Put the result that matters in the first two sentences: the CV, the limit of detection, the hands-on time saved, the concordance with the reference method.

  2. Name the instrument and configuration. State the cytometer, lasers, panel size and analysis software, as the MIFlowCyt checklist asks (Lee et al., Cytometry A 2008, 10.1002/cyto.a.20623). "A spectral cytometer" does not count.

  3. State the controls. Say what defined positivity (FMO, unstained, biological negative) and how spillover or unmixing was checked.

  4. Give n at every level. Donors, samples, runs and instruments are different denominators; reviewers notice when an "n = 30" is three donors run ten times.

  5. Make the conclusion something another lab can use. "We validated X" is weaker than "X cut hands-on time from A to B with no change in counts."

What did we miss? Hit reply with your meeting, course or webinar, with the host link, and we will add it. If a colleague is planning their CYTO abstract, forward this to them.
